How does a subscription work?

A certificate from Fairyland informing the recipient of their magical gift will be posted within 2 days of order placement.  Thereafter, the letters themselves will be posted on or around the 5th of each month.

What if I need it in a hurry?

Why not download a pdf of our free subscription gift certificate (available at the bottom of our shop page)?

Please note:  our downloadable certificate is not the same as the certificate that is sent to the recipient upon ordering.  This means you won't spoil anything by printing out and presenting the free pdf!

Frequently Asked Questions: Bespoke Books

What kind of stories do you write?

Our stories are written in the style of traditional fairy or folk tales. Any modern elements are included in such a way as to feel timeless.  Our stories are imaginative, unusual and richly descriptive. Have a look at some of our examples to get a feel for our writing!

We aim to make the stories suitable for a wide age range.  Younger children will probably want the story read aloud to them, whereas older children might want to read independently. We don't shy away from including complex vocabulary and the occasional philosophical idea - our years of teaching have shown us that children learn new words best in context and are able to understand more than we think they are!

How long are the stories?

Our stories are approximately 2000 words long.  To give  you an idea of what that means, 2000 words is the typical length of a school reading book for 6-10 year olds.  This makes it the perfect length to read aloud as a bedtime story.

Are the stories illustrated?

Illustrations are an optional extra.

When will I receive the finished story?

The whole process takes approximately four to six weeks.  We will email you with a questionnaire within 24 hours of receiving your order.  We ask you to complete this within 3 days.  Once we have finished your story, we will email you a copy to approve.  You will also have the opportunity at this point to write a dedication.  We can help you choose suitable quotations if needed!  What happens next depends on the presentation option you have chosen, but we will always email you a PDF copy of your story in addition to this.  You will receive your framed or scroll story via Royal Mail 1st class recorded delivery.

Help - I need a gift in a hurry!

We will do our absolute best to accommodate shorter timescales, but this is not always possible!  If you need a gift in a hurry, we suggest that you order one of our vouchers.  We can either email you a copy to print out yourself, send this out via Royal Mail First Class to arrive in 1 -2 days (free), or via Special Delivery to arrive next day for orders placed before midday (charges apply).   We can gift wrap your voucher if you wish.  You will be able to add your own gift message.

Can I ask for changes?

Yes!  You may ask for small edits at the approval stage.  Changes are rarely requested though, as our questionnaire is designed to give us plenty to work with.

Do you offer refunds?

As our stories are written to order, we are not able to offer refunds on these once work has started.  We will of course, replace any items that are damaged in the post.  We are able to offer a refund to the original purchaser of a gift voucher within 30 days of purchase.
